| Allergy Drops, Not Shots: Simple....ALLERTOL® | The Allergy Drop Solution: Allertol | Allergy drops, known as sublingual immunotherapy, work like allergy shots, creating Allergen Tolerance. The drops can be used to safely and effectively treat chronic delayed food allergies and inhalant allergies. A drop from a solution of specific allergens, water and glycerin is placed under the tongue three times a day. Receptors under the tongue, called dendritic cells, detect molecules in the allergy drop solution and present them to immune system T regulatory cells. These T-reg cells induce and maintain tolerance to allergens and can prevent development of future sensitivities through immune system down-regulation. Chronic delayed food allergy symptoms may start to improve within days. Inhalant allergy symptoms begin to improve within months. Immunotherapy is done for up to several years, decreasing the need for allergy medications. | | Treat the cause of your allergies - not just the symptoms! | | What foods cause chronic allergy symptoms? What you love the most, may not love you back! The most favorite drinks and foods are often the worst offenders. Dairy products such as milk and cheese commonly cause delayed food allergies. Consider eliminating favorites from the diet for 4 days, and if symptoms improve, reintroduce and watch for return of symptoms during the next 24 hours. WithAllertolâ for delayed food allergy, it is not usually necessary to isolate and eliminate the food culprits. The drops create immune tolerance that increasingly allows the offending food to be consumed. | Aller tol = Allergen tolerance | How is Testing Done? Testing for inhalant allergies is done with skin tests or a blood test to measure IgE antibody. Common allergy medications are avoided two weeks prior to skin testing; Singulair / nasal steroid sprays are OK. The blood test is not affected by allergy medication. Testing for chronic delayed food allergy is done with one or more trial vials of suspected foods at various concentrations. The allergy history helps determine the starting dilution. Symptoms are noted before, during and after the trial period, especially changes in nasal blockage that worsen while asleep, evidenced by dry mouth, drooling and snoring. | | A history of emergency allergy treatment for hives, asthma, or sudden swelling makes blood tests for IgE antibodies mandatory. Foods with elevated IgE levels and known offending foods are strictly eliminated. Serial blood tests are obtained to monitor elevated antibody levels. The internet is a good resource to learn the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis, sudden severe allergy, and proper emergency management. The patient, family and close contacts of the patient with a history of anaphylactic reaction must be able to recognize anaphylaxis, and initiate care on the way to an emergency facility. Allertol is not used to prevent or treat immediate life-threatening allergy/anaphylaxis. | How Can I Obtain Allertol Drops? After obtaining physical exam, allergy history, and any needed tests, your healthcare provider can help determine if you are a candidate for sublingual immunotherapy with Allertol® . Your vial(s) are mailed to your house. Refrigeration is not needed.
