Dr. John Shea

Background

Dr. Shea became interested in allergy diagnosis and treatment when he was a medical student in Galveston, in the 1970s. He received training and was then treated for seasonal allergies through the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Shortly after starting his practice in 1979, Dr. Shea became aware of successful sublingual immunotherapy through allergy society meetings and personal research.

In 1982, Dr. Shea and his allergy nurse, Kay Phillips R.N. began using allergy drop therapy in Burleson, Texas. Since then, sublingual immunotherapy techniques have continued to improve, with helpful feedback from the patients, and diligent work of the allergy nurses.

Physicians assistant, Lisa Blair, has been a valuable member of our team. She has displayed a keen interest in the management of allergies, especially the evaluation of chronic food allergies and in relieving the myriad of symptoms produced. She displays great compassion for her patients.

After Hours and Emergencies

The answering service is available to take your calls after hours. Messages will be returned when the office resumes normal hours. If you have an urgent problem, you should call 911 or seek immediate care in an emergency facility.

Billing Policy

Payment for services is due in full at the time the service is provided in our office.

Insurance

We bill most insurance carriers for you if proper paperwork is provided to us. We will also bill most secondary insurance companies for you. Co-payments and deductibles are due at the time of service. Since your agreement with your insurance carrier is a private one, we do not routinely research why an insurance carrier has not paid or why it paid less than anticipated for care. If an insurance carrier has not paid within 60 days of billing, professional fees are due and payable in full from you.

Medicare

We will bill Medicare for you. We will also bill secondary insurances for you. All co-payments or deductibles are due and payable at the time service is provided.

Non-Covered Services

Any care not paid for by your existing insurance coverage will require payment in full at the time services are provided or upon notice of insurance claim denial.

Fees and co-payments are due at the time services are rendered.
Allergy drop vials require cash or credit card payment.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel your appointment, we request at least 48-hour notice.

Fees

We make every effort to keep down the cost of your medical care. In most cases, we accept your insurance payment as payment in full, provided the service is covered and your deductible has been met. Any exceptions are the responsibility of the patient. We are members of most insurance plans. We ask that you provide us with all needed information regarding your insurance to help make billing run smoothly.

If you have no insurance, payment is due at the time of service. If your situation prevents you from paying your bill promptly, arrangements can be made.

If you choose to do your own billing, a super bill form will be supplied to you upon payment.

Insurance Covered

We accept members of most insurance plans. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding your insurance. We take pride in our capability to serve you. We look forward to a mutually satisfactory relationship.
